Cha-ching Moment!

Living a drunken life, not that kind of drunk, but drunk with life and love.

It’s December 1st. I’m so excited!

I spent so much money last month.

$40 on an ice cream run with my children. More $$$ on ice cream runs.

$$$ on craft fairs and lunches, and a spontaneous trip.

Then it hit me. I always think that there’s more month than money. Money feels tight and I wish I had more of it.

Cha-Ching Moment

Yesterday, I was lamenting that I had spent so much money on stuff—stuff that ended up in the trash or on my waistline.

I never thought that I had extra money to put towards my mortgage. But last month proved me wrong.

And what if I put an extra $100 towards my principle every month instead of buying random stuff?

I Googled, “$100 more towards my home mortgage.”

This is what Google said, “Simply paying a little more towards the principal each month will allow the borrower to pay off the mortgage early. Just paying an additional $100 per month towards the principal of the mortgage reduces the number of months of the payments. A 30 year mortgage (360 months) can be reduced to about 24 years (279 months) – this represents a savings of 6 years! ”

What??? I can shave years off my morgage? Sign me up!

Conclusion

Today, on December 1st, I paid an additional $100 on my home mortgage principal. Can I keep this up? Can I skip a few of my ice cream runs?

I’ll let you know next December.
